About Us
We believe that:
- All families can benefit from information on mental health.
- Failure to treat mental illnesses in children can have serious or even tragic consequences.
- Children who suffer from mental illnesses often have difficulty in the school setting.
- The entire school community needs to be familiar with policies, rights and responsibilities, classroom strategies and accommodations for children with mental illnesses.
- Mental illnesses don't discriminate on the basis of socio-economic conditions, gender, ability level or family background.
- Many children who suffer from mental illnesses also have coexisting, or comorbid, conditions such as learning disabilities, ADHD, mental retardation, traumatic brain injury, and autism.
- Young people with mental illnesses are at a greater risk for drug and/or alcohol abuse.
We can work together by:
- Providing information to the community about children's mental health issues.
- Providing support to parents and school districts through education and advocacy training.
- Providing up-to-date information on classroom strategies and accommodations.
- Familiarizing the community with the signs of mental illnesses.
- Helping the community understand the impact of mental illnesses on children and their families.
- Helping parents and teachers work together to advocate for children with mental illnesses.
- Providing information to the community on where to get help.
